BRANCH / 06 · CLAIM SUPPORT ARCHITECTURE

A claim is only as strong as its evidence path.

Evidence is not a URL, metric or screenshot. It is a traceable relationship between an exact claim and observations capable of supporting, qualifying or rejecting it within a declared scope and time.

EVD / 001 FOUNDATION

Evidence is not the source. Evidence is the support relation.

A source becomes evidence only when a relevant observation from it is connected to a specific claim. The same source may strongly support one claim, weakly support another and be irrelevant to a third.

Digital evidence is a traceable observation that has sufficient relevance, provenance and integrity to alter confidence in a bounded claim.

This definition separates retrieval from proof. Finding a document establishes availability. Extracting a passage establishes an observation. Demonstrating that the passage directly bears on the exact claim establishes evidential support. The conclusion must remain no broader than that support.

SOURCEWhere the information originates
OBSERVATIONWhat was directly detected or recorded
EVIDENCEWhy the observation changes claim confidence
INFERENCEMeaning derived beyond direct observation
CONCLUSIONThe narrowest defensible claim state
EVD / 002 EVIDENCE CHAIN

Seven controls turn a retrieved item into usable proof.

Every link must remain inspectable. A broken identity, missing timestamp or unsupported interpretation limits the entire chain regardless of how authoritative the source appears.

EVD / 003 CLAIM–EVIDENCE GRAPH

Support is a graph, not a pile of citations.

Multiple sources may repeat one upstream statement and still represent a single evidence lineage. The graph must distinguish independent corroboration from duplication and expose contradictory observations.

EDGE / SUPPORTDirectness is claim-specific

A source can be authoritative yet only indirectly related to the claim.

EDGE / INDEPENDENCEThree URLs may be one lineage

Syndication and circular citation do not create three independent confirmations.

EDGE / CONFLICTContradiction remains visible

Conflicting evidence is resolved by scope, timing and provenance—not deleted for narrative convenience.

EVD / 004 CLAIM SUPPORT ENGINE

Confidence must be explainable, editable and bounded.

Adjust the five evidence dimensions. The result demonstrates calibration logic for one evidence record; it is not a universal truth score, ranking factor or substitute for expert review.

EVD-C01 / HEURISTIC CALIBRATIONSUPPORTED WITH LIMITS
CALIBRATED STATE / DEMONSTRATION

Supported with limits

The claim has direct and traceable support, but unresolved variance must remain visible in the conclusion.

INTERPRETATION RULE: The weighted result compares records under this declared model. It does not measure objective truth, replace domain judgment or remove the need to inspect contradictory evidence.
EVD / 005 DECISION MATRIX

Source quality and claim directness must be judged separately.

A high-quality source may be irrelevant to the exact claim. A direct observation from a weak or unverifiable source may still require qualification. The matrix prevents authority from being used as a shortcut for relevance.

STATE / 01Supported

Relevant evidence is direct, traceable and materially unopposed.

STATE / 02Qualified

Core support exists, but scope, time or conflict limits the wording.

STATE / 03Unresolved

Available evidence cannot discriminate between material alternatives.

STATE / 04Rejected

Direct contradictory evidence defeats the claim under the stated boundary.

EVD / 006 TEMPORAL VALIDITY

Evidence has a clock. Freshness is part of meaning.

A source does not become false merely because it ages. Instead, its fitness for a present-tense claim declines according to the volatility of the observed system and the existence of newer contradictory states.

EXAMPLE / LIVE SERPHigh-volatility evidence

A dated ranking observation supports only its captured query, locale, device and time state. Continued ranking requires new observation.

EVD / 007 EVIDENCE RECORD

Every conclusion should retain its inspection surface.

The evidence record keeps observed facts, derivations, conflicts and limitations in distinct fields. This prevents interpretation from being silently rewritten as source data.

EVD-R01 / MINIMUM RECORD

A conclusion without provenance is a dead end.

The record must let another reviewer find the source state, reproduce the transformation, identify the exact supported claim and see what the evidence does not establish.

EVD / 008 FAILURE SURFACE

Evidence fails in recognizable ways. Expose the failure mode.

Weak research often contains real sources but invalid support relationships. Each failure below requires a different control and produces a different restriction on the final claim.

FAIL / 01Authority substitution

A trusted source is cited even though it does not directly support the claim.

CONTROL / RELEVANCE

CONTROL / LINEAGE
FAIL / 03Temporal mismatch

CONTROL / FRESHNESS
FAIL / 04Scope inflation

CONTROL / BOUNDARY
FAIL / 05Metric reification

FAIL / 08Unknown-as-zero

CONTROL / NULL STATE
EVD / 009 SYSTEM BOUNDARIES

Proof strength depends on more than the number of sources.

Three controls must remain independent: the integrity of the source record, the logic connecting evidence to the claim and the uncertainty carried into the conclusion.

CTRL / 01

Provenance integrity

Preserve identity, authorship, publication state, acquisition time, parameters and every material transformation.

QUESTION / CAN THE OBSERVATION BE TRACED?
CTRL / 02

Support validity

Test whether the observation bears directly on the exact claim and whether alternative interpretations remain plausible.

QUESTION / DOES IT SUPPORT THIS CLAIM?
CTRL / 03

Inference restraint

Carry conflict, missingness, temporal decay and sample limits into the wording and decision state.

QUESTION / WHAT MAY WE CONCLUDE?
EVD / 010 EVIDENCE NETWORK

One proof layer. Twelve distinct responsibilities.

The cluster separates evidence identity, quality, collection, corroboration, conflict, time, mapping, confidence and synthesis so that no page is forced to explain the entire proof system.
