Transactional intent describes a search mission in which the user wants to complete a concrete action: purchase, book, subscribe, download, request a quote, contact a provider, start a trial or perform another task.
The central problem is no longer primarily “Which option should I choose?” It is “How do I complete the intended action with the least uncertainty and friction?”
Transactional intent is an execution mission.
The user has moved from learning or evaluating toward an action endpoint. The content and interface must therefore help the user understand what can be done, what is required and how to complete it.
The query contains an explicit or strongly implied task such as buy, book, download, register, contact, apply, subscribe or start.
A useful transactional experience moves the user to the correct endpoint and makes completion possible without avoidable uncertainty.
Evaluation chooses. Transaction executes.
Commercial investigation and transactional intent can occur close together, but they represent different dominant missions.

Intent mismatch occurs when the page discusses the correct subject but does not provide the endpoint required by the user’s dominant mission.

Not every transaction ends in a cart.
Transactional intent also appears in service, local, professional and lead-generation environments where completion means booking, calling, requesting, applying or starting a conversation.
AI interfaces can shorten the path from question to action.
Conversational search may help users clarify requirements, compare constraints and identify an appropriate action endpoint. The underlying destination still needs accurate offer information and a usable completion path.
Transactional satisfaction means the task can finish.
The page should answer the minimum questions required for safe action and provide an interface that actually reaches the user’s intended end state.
The page supports the specific task implied by the query.
The user can identify what is available and for whom.
Price, terms, eligibility or other constraints are understandable.
The user can inspect enough information to commit appropriately.
The interface does not introduce unnecessary barriers.
The final state is explicit and the user knows the action succeeded.
Audit whether the page helps someone actually transact.
